The district production department is responsible for Agricultural extension services accruing from the Ministry of Agriculture animal industry and fisheries.

To transform subsistence farming to commercial agriculture
OBJECTIVES
To support sustainable market oriented crop and livestock production, pests and disease control, quality and safety of plants/animals and their products for improved food security and household income.
KEY ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
Mobilize and register farmers into production and marketing groups, asses their needs and design appropriate training sessions so that they can benefit from agriculture extension services. Linking farmers/producers with research based information to improve agricultural production, productivity, processing and marketing of agricultural goods/services. The department is charged with implementation of pillar one under Parish Development Model which is the government strategy to extend services in a decentralized manner to the 39% of the population out of the money economy.
