EDUCATION AND SPORTS
The department oversees education, training and development of the young generation and turning them into responsible citizens and leaders of tomorrow in the district. The District has 456 Primary schools of which 83 are Government aided and 373 are private. The teachers on government payroll are 710 primary, 156 secondary and 18 from the tertiary institutions. There are 43 secondary schools of which 10 are Universal Secondary education (USE) schools and 33 are private secondary schools; 4 tertiary institutions of which 1 is government aided and 3 are private.
The District continues to excel in the National Examinations Primary Leaving Examinations, Uganda Certificate of Education and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education. In the national ranking of the best performing districts in 2020 in PLE, Kakumiro emerged 115th.
DEPARTMENTAL MISSION
To build and maintain capacity in education services, Improve service delivery as per the national education policies, education strategic investment plan and district development so as to ensure all learners have equal opportunities to access quality education services through improvement of infrastructure and mode of service delivery.
New/Upcoming Departmental projects
1. Construction of VIP pit latrines in selected schools with inadequate sanitation/hygiene facilities.
2. Furnishing Departmental Registry.
3. Construction of a two classroom facilities Kitegura Primary school.
4. Preparation for PLE, UCE and UACE 2022 Examinations.
5. Strengthening twinning programme among schools with a view of improving balanced academic performance in the District.
Services offered
1. Implementation of the national Education goals in the District.
2. Sensitization of teachers on the professional Code of conduct.
3. Licensing and Registration of Nursery schools.
4. Routine inspection of schools to ensure adherence and implementation of government policies.
5. Provision of counselling and guidance services to teachers.
6. Mobilization of pupils/students to attend schools.
7. Sensitization of SMC and Bogs to enhance their performance of duties.
8. Identifying areas (parishes) without schools.
9. Inspection of primary, secondary schools and Tertiary institutions and recommended them for
10. Licensing/registration.
11. Identifying the disadvantaged vulnerable children with learning disabilities for “proper placement in schools.
12. Monitor teacher/pupil/student attendance in schools.
